my cherokee was totalled!!!
I'm soooo devastated and distraught!!!! My 95 JC Sport was totalled the other day. Some lady hit me while she was talking on her cell and waving to friends she was meeting on the street. She pulled out right in front of me to make a left turn and hit me.
I dont know what to do! I love that Jeep! The damage is limited to the front bumper and side, mainly driver side, but it goes a little through the middle and passenger side. Its completely smashed in and a portion was up aginst the wheel (on driver side) The airbag went off, and I think in the state of WA if the airbag goes off its basically totalled.
I want to fix it, I talked to the body shop I brought it to and he said it was fixable, but I'll more than likely have to pay some out of pocket.
My Jeep has about 143,000 miles on it and has been very well taken care of. Other than the collision, it's in very good order. I guess my questions would be these:
Approximately how many miles do Jeeps (the engine etc...) last? (I was looking and saw one with 212,000 miles, is that common for a Jeep? Again, I've taken good care of it) I don't have very much money now, and insurance agancies always low-ball what your car is worth- any ideas for a 95 with 143,000 miles? Any kind of advice would be very much appriciated! I really want it fixed, but I don't know if thats the smartest thing to do.
Thanks

i would take the money that they give you and just buy another one, unless it had some sentimental value...
don't let them pay you the trade in value though... and if u can prove that it was in excellent shape, they have to pay you the going price for a similar vehicle.
the engines run well over 200k miles if cared properly, the drivetrain is bulletproof, but the body that has been in an accident needs to be evaluated and repaired by a professional. especially if the airbag deployed. the inability to separate the body from the frame, makes it more difficult for an average joe to straighten and evaluate the frame and body separately.

sucks to hear...your 1st post here and its about an accident.
these jeeps will run pretty much forever, but as with any car/truck it all depends on it's maintenance history. since you said you've taken care of it, it sounds like you should fix it (if the damage isn't too bad).

get an estimate from the body shop and submit that to your insurance company. if it's less than the blue book value, you should be able to demand them to repair it.
if not, argue with the insurance company saying you have well maintained the jeep and hopefully you have receipts.
never take their first offer.
start searching for basically the same jeep with same mileage and use that as leverage.
tell them to find you the same jeep in the same condition with same mileage and buy it for you.
