I have a 98 xj and when i go to take off when on the street the motor acts flooded and cuts out bad for 5 seconds then picks up. i cleaned the throttle body, put new air filter and tried all possible things. no luck. but it doesnt do it all the time. very wierd!

How old are the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires? Have you ever replaced the fuel filter?

May not have one an a 98. A cap, rotor, and wires would be the easiest and cheaps thing to start with.

Had the same problem on my 97....it ended up being a bad cat.(it made alot of rattling noise) it was so shot that the plates were breaking apart inside and moving around and under the right conditions it would block off the exhaust and that cause the motor to stumble really bad....replaced that and the muffler and the problem went away....not saying thats ur problem but it is something else to keep in mind
