I am going to paint my XJ tan soon and am still debating if i could get a paint gun and a gallon of paint or just spray paint the thing. I'd think the paint gun would turn out better but idk. i emailed macco and they dont have a satin desert tan. does anyone know where i can can some satin desert tan automotive paint??

I am in the (slow) process of painting the top half of mine OD green. I have used the rattlecan OD from Walmart, did three coats without any issue. The color ended up dead flat. I scuffed the surface before I started, and scuffed between each layer with a 3M scrubbie pad, just to get rid of the individual spray lines. Turned out pretty good so far. I looked at spraying the whole thing with a spray gun and paint by the gallon, but it didn't add up price-wise. YMMV...

 

Not to hijack, how many cans did those 3 coats take? I'm looking at doing the same
