Default M101 3/4 Ton Military Trailer

Hey Guys,

First off, move this if I'm in the wrong area.

I have been looking at the 3/4 ton M101 trailers lately. Been having a tough time finding info on this trailer in combination with our XJs. Does anyone have experience or thoughts on these trailers.

I am not talking about the M416 or Canadian M101 but the 3/4 ton M101 nor am I interested in the smaller varieties.

Thanks for any input.

They're big and heavy. I have towed many of them (or like them) when I was in the U.S. Army. They're made to be towed my 3/4 ton or bigger trucks.

I'd rather have one of the smaller M416 1/4 ton trailer to pull behind my XJ.

OK, nevermind the info for the 416. I went back and re-read your post.

Anyway, the trailer that you're asking about is pretty heavy for an XJ to tow. Can it do it, yes. I also tow a 16-foot dual-axle flatbed with mine. MPG sucks.

Assuming you'll have a tow pintle on your XJ?

The trailer weights in at 1200-1300 empty.. I would cut a little weight down by swapping axles and wheels. Our XJ are rated at 5000 and I would never load it with more than 2000. Would it really be that bad?

I expect MPGs to drop when towing and of course you are not going to have NASCAR speed and acceleration.

I would keep the pintle style hitch and not swap to the ball.

Gave up on the military trailer idea and picked up this tonight...

It's a standard 4x8 utility trailer with mesh floor ad fold down mesh gate.

It is a 5 lug pattern and from a quick hand measurement looks to match the jeep. I'll find out tomorrow and look into mounting up my stock rims and 235s for a little extra height. Should bring the trailer just about level with the drop hitch as well.

Also have a plastic toolbox I may mount infront of the trailer bed. It is a single square tube and not an A frame so it would require some extra supports.

I'll post some more pics when I get into it.
