Here the deal, I have a chance to buy a LP D30 out of a 2000 for a $100. I planned on keeping for a spare in case any happened to my HP d30. Good idea or not? At least the axles halts will work in my HP. Right?

LP stand for low pinion and your JK has a D30 front not a 35. Your 01 XJ could have either a D35 or 8.25 rear.
