Default Looking for an XJ

I'm new to this forum and Jeeps in general. I am about to buy a Jeep Cherokee at some point this summer before I go to college in the fall. I have a budget of about $2500 and insist on a stick shift. Any recommendations on where to look or things to be aware of before I buy would be greatly appreciated.

check every part of the body and under the body for rust... sticks are a lil more rare but you should find some i found mine on cars.com but craigslist is a good choice... two body styles pre 97 and 97+ find out which one suites your needs older ones tend to have better axles and motors but newer have more luxury options like power windows etc... personally i like to buy cars stock and modify them myself that way i know how used the parts really are but other people are different...and most importantly if you buy a 4wd make sure it works!!!!

Thanks, I've noticed that rust is a common concern with these jeeps. I also love working on cars so I don't mind doing some work as I go along. I also would prefer having all manual interior parts (doors, windows, mirrors), but I would take power stuff as well, I will be going to school in the mountains, so functioning 4wd will be a must.
