Looking at buying a 92 Jeep Cherokee
I went and looked at a Cherokee this evening. The guy is asking 800 bucks. Looked it over it ran well but had a few issues. Looked like the valve cover was leaking. Transmission seal looked to be leaking. Transfer case was wet as well. The body was pretty rough but I plan on beating it anyway. Both front quarter panels were bent in. Interior was rough but would get gutted.
I dont know Cherokees all that well but I am good with my hands and would say I could do most everything on my own or with some friends help. I guess my question is how far gone is too far gone for a Jeep. Frame had no rust body was rust free.
Bring on the negative comments.
(yeah I have read one days worth of posts)

Nothing? No ones got any stories of stuff they have had to fix that were to much.
Maybe if I put this in the wrong section I would at least get a response.
Come on show me how smart you are and let me know something.

Leaks aren't the end of the world and can generally be fixed. The only problem that would pose is if the past owner let it leak to the point where it ran dry and kept on running it and burnt up the internals.
A valve cover gasket can be done in a couple hours. A transfer case can be dropped and taken apart and put back in in a day. Transmission can be a little tricky and could take a day or 2. But all in all I'd say it's all fixable. So if the only issues you can see or feel are leaks, I'd say go for it. Cause you can definitely get it back up to par with a little time and care.

As long as there is no signs of terrible rust, everything else can be taken care of in a weekend in your driveway with basic tools. $800 is a steal! I say go for it! Hell that $100 cheaper than mine was! LOL
Thank you guys for the input. I was beginning to feel like people were a little more interested in what color their Jeep was than helping a guy out. I offered him $600 for it. I plan on parting the AC and heater and pretty well stripping it of non essential parts. I have a DD this will be to beat on.
The frame was straight and no rust. Floor pans looked good. I didnt get to test drive it as it was blocked in by his wifes car but it will get test drove before I pull the trigger. Dont need any death wobbles before it gets lifted and bigger tires. May even see if I can get it into a shop to have them look it over for things I am not seeing.
Again thanks guys.
