Hello I'm new to the forums and I was looking into getting a Cherokee. I was hoping I could get some insight on what I should look for when buying a used Cherokee

While the 231 t case is a slightly better OFF-road case... I would suggest that if you live in a region that deals with ice and snow in the winter you might be better off, with a 242 T-case.. The 242 t-case allows your to use All wheel drive on pavement.

I think 99. You gain a few extra ponies and a nice interior. Once you get to 2000, you get the low-pinion Dana 30 and the crack prone 0331 head. Check for rust in the floor boards (under driver/passengers feet) the AW4 is an awesome automatic tranny and for me, much more convenient off road. Might squeeze a few extra mpgs with a manual.
