Thanks for asking. Just my XJ zealot opinion, so please forgive my limits. My family has, and they're all otherwise bright, successful, and well adjusted. The answer kinda depends. The XJ's no land yacht, for sure. It's a bit more comfortable than a Jeep you can hose out, more capable than a station wagon. Just as we wouldn't normally take a sports car 4x4-ing, we wouldn't expect it to be as comfy as a Caddy, or take a turn like a mustang. But when you get there, as with training, what you're capable of counts. For all that I'm a bit under 6'6", I'd take a Suburban or Expedition, if I wanted comfort, or to sleep in it, but you sacrifice turning radius. A 4WD crew cab also works. I still prefer the XJ, but that is from always having owned one, and some sentiment for the memories I have.
