Default Looking at a '99 Cherokee SE and questions about using a roof tent.

So as we have been weighing options for both a second vehicle along with a new tent and pads I was nice enough to show my wife the Cascadia Vehicle Tents and she was drooling by the time I got through a few videos of ease of setup. I've been wanting a Jeep for some time so this might be my option to kill a few birds with on stone. I've been doing some research and it looks as if I use 4-5 Thule rain gutter mounts and bars that the Cherokee should handle the weight with ease along with enough weight distribution.

Now my question, does anyone know it the CVT Mt McKinley will work on the top of the 99 Cherokee SE size wise. I believe it is 84x48" and 186lbs base weight. We won't be doing tons of off roading though we love to hit up remote trout streams to fish and this would allow us to camp anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

Thanks sir.

Edit: If anyone knows the dimensions on the roof top that would be great also, trying to figure out how large of a RTT I can squeeze up there.

My roof measured 85" long, that's including the hatch which is 3", and 52" wide from gutter to gutter. The stock roof rack cross bars fully extended are 43" Long x 46" Wide. That's the half rack on my '99. The older cherokee's have a longer full rack.

Hope that helps.

Got your PM..

My RTT is 72" wide.. Queen size. Measure your XJ roof, you'll find that this will take up just about all of your available real estate. You sure it's 84'?... seems real wide unless it's a RTT similar in size to the Eezi-Awn 2600 with dual ladders?

Your right on about the crossbars under the floor, you want as much support as possible to prevent bowing. I'd imagine this is more important on the Chinese brands, i'm assuming they didnt use a quality solid material for the flooring.

Got a link to this RTT your considering? If you really need/want an RTT this wide you might be well informed to look for a trailer to mount it to if a possibility.
