Default Lift Kits: What would you do different??

Just curious what you would do different to your XJ after you lifted it and have experienced the ride it provided you. Does a stock RE (or similar) kit provide a smooth enough ride to make it streetable?? if not what did you change??

I'm challenged here as I have very limited suspension experience.. I have a stock jeep and intend to lift it but I really want to avoid MANY learning curves and get it right the first time...

Its not a daily driver but I still don't want it bouncing all over the place when I do drive it, I'm looking for a 3.5" lift mainly for clearance and mild off road.

what have you found works best to provide an optimum ride?

I've owned 2 Rough Country lifts. Both 3" and they rode just fine. When you get stiffer parts your ride will just naturally be stiffer.

My 3.5" kit rides like garbage. If you want to do it right the first time then either do long arms or just go 4.5" with control arm drop brackets, 3" lift leafs with 3" longer shackles and shackle relocation brackets, quality shocks, adjustable track bar, new bushings everywhere, and don't forget steering. Also you will want a slip yoke eliminator to eliminate driveshaft vibrations

I just put on OME front coils, (2in. lift), they ride better than the stock coils, odd since I thought they would be stiffer. Difference is not night an day but noticeable.

Even tires can make or break the ride also,Just remember the more sidewall it has the softer the ride will be.
