Lift install
Hi, I just ordered a 4.5" x series rough country lift for my xj. I have never done a lift kit install and can't decide wether to install my self in my unheated garage or have a shop do it. My local shop gave me an estimate of 450-500 for install. I want to do it myself but it's gonna be freezing in my garage. What do ya think?

Get a space heater and do it yourself or wait until it warms up. It's not difficult at all if you're mechanically inclined and have basic hand tools. You can get it done in a weekend if you take your time to make sure everything is right. Get some PB Blaster and spray it on ALL the nuts and bolts you'll be removing every day for at least a week prior to install.

Do it yourself Then take it to a shop to get it aligned. You can probably get it close to where it needs to be at home but you won't be able to get it exactly where it needs to be. Make sure if you do take it to get it aligned that it's not just some random shop that has never dealt with lifted vehicles. Take it somewhere who knows how to set it properly.
