Is this level of rust in the engine bay normal?

What happens to the other end at the firewall when it's expecting a much wider hose? Do you use an adapter there? Are there any dangers with using a much narrower coolant hose than OEM? This seems risky. You sure about this?

The "end link" part looks insanely rusted. Replace it? Dangerous?
That doesn't look too awful, to me. Being from Jersey, I know all about the rusting issues. If you can't actually see daylight through it, then it should still be good.

That said... it wouldn't hurt to have replacements handy, er, just in case.

Slugger, we are clearly having a problem in translation. Let me try again.
That water pump nipple is SMALL diameter.
The OEM heater hose coolant line is MEDIUM diameter.
They are DIFFERENT sizes. You can not have ONE size hose that can connect to both sizes at either end. Please re-read my questions and see if you now understand what I mean. Thank you. Typing can be such a pain in the *** when looking a this in person would take 3 seconds to get the point across.

the hose barb end is 5/8th. the thread end is 3/4 that screws into the water pump.
the heater hose that goes to the water pump is 5/8th
you just slide the heater hose over the barb end and put a clamp on it to tighten it up some.

unless you mean the current inlet pipe thats on it is smaller diameter?

Wow, ok, in the photo the barb looks tiny compared to a heater hose. I did not realize they were the same diameter. Why do you think Jeep designed that rusty water pipe instead of a direct hose connection like this?
