A death wobble is a shake that is so bad you can not steer. And if it is that bad it will happen well before 55. Normally 25-35 over every bump and the only way it goes away is to come to a screeching halt. Because you can not steer!!!!!!!!!!!!! It dose not happen over night.

mine started with a bad tie end rod which causes the rest of my tie end rods to go bad cause of the extra play that wasn't to noticeable at first...but over time just gets worst...creating a domino effect...when one part goes bad it puts strain on other parts causing premature wear on other parts...at the first sign of a developing problem fix it, it'll save you time, money and headache
it can also be caused from a miss aligned vehicle typically from a suspension mod. I'm sure there are other contributing factors but that the main ones i know of personally

I am trying to track down the source of my DW and it doesn't fit this at all. Some background. Recently picked up my 96 2 door. When I bought it I noticed it would make a single clunk when turning the wheel lock-to-lock. I bought it anyway and promptly drove it 175 miles home with no issues, The next day, approaching 50 mph I got a DW that seriously scared the hell out of me. Since that one incident DW hasn't reappeared.
I have since replaced both the front track bar arms/bushings as they were shot. This took out a lot of the lock-to-lock clunk (now mostly a "click" that I still can't seem to find).
180k on the odometer and lots of worn bushings, so I may end up replacing everything anyway. But, it was only $600 so I'm not complaining.
But my DW experience dosen't match yours

+1...
DW is caused by improper steering angles which is usually caused by lifting. Fixes? OTK/high steer, drop pitman arm or regular maintenance of your rig including ball joints and tie rod ends.

My reason for this thread is a complainant about typical maintenance issues being refereed to as a death wobble. Seams like any one who feels a little vib at highway speeds calls it a death wobble. Doesn't matter is its a tie rod. wheel balance. or there antenna whipping in the wind. To me a death wobble is a little more savvier and it is degrading everyone who says it. Think of the name DEATH wobble. Not slightly annoying vibration. Its just ridiculous.
