Default Just learned my 91 cherokee has auto off lights!!

Out of the 5 cherokees I have had in my life I never knew that the lights automatically turned off I always had to turn the lights off then the key off because the lights would just stay on I thought but today I just ran in my house for a second and I left the lights on pushed the button in on the inside after I turned off the ignition came back outside a minute later and my lights were off so I tested this by turning my car on turning the lights on my car off and turning the lights off and for sure it happened they turned off automatically after about 30 seconds am I the only 1 who did not know that did not know this
?!?

In the manual it says they stay on for 30 seconds or so before turning off. I don't know why but that's just how it is.. I've had people tell me I left my lights on because of it.. But whatever they turn off eventually

It was an option, Listed on the build sheet as "LHDP Headlamp Off Time Delay"
Usually also came with the option "LACP Illuminated Entry" And they can be very handy at times. Also a pain it other times. I have stopped to watch mine shut off (or make sure they did) numerous times. Mainly because of being 21 years old, I don't have complete total trust in them operating correctly.

...haha.. Oh the simple joys in life. My 99 does it.. But I had an 89 volvo that had auto run lights, so I always try it in a new vehicle now..

Soon youll get "hey, you know your lights are still on, right?"

I have gotten that more than a few times. I have to physically check them (to make sure they are turned off) before exiting the vehicle at night.

Yeah, all my Jeeps have done that. It's nice when you get home at night and it illuminates the area for just long enough to get inside.

the night before I had auto lights, last night no auto lights then later I had the auto lights...

I'm thinking a electrical short, not auto lights.

I have a 99 and mine does the same but the amount of time it takes varies. It has gone from turning off in 2 seconds all the way to turning off in 2 minutes. Weird, eh?

I have auto lights, only if I kill the ignition and then push the switch in...
