Default Just Bought My First Jeep

I just bought a 1992 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 High Output. I am an extreme novice with vehicles. The antifreeze in the overflow container (if that's what you call it) was well below the FULL line. I bought Prestone 50/50 that says it is good for all cars and light trucks. Is that OK to use? Thanks.

There should be two lines on that tank. One is full for when the vehicle is cold, one is for when it is hot, this is the higher line. If the vehicle is cold has not been running at all then the coolant should be lower in that resevoir. It expands when the vehicle is hot, you don't want to put too much in that tank, it will overfill and create a little mess!

Yea, add the 50/50 to it. Congrats on your purchase...post some pics! BTW if your coolant is an odd color you may benefit from a coolant flush.

OK. When I look at the container it has an indention way towards the bottom that says ADD. About maybe halfway up is the FULL indention. The Jeep had been sitting over night. When I checked it this morning it was below the FULL line. So I filled it to that line. And then I figured I would drive it today and check it again tomorrow morning and see where it is at to see if I am losing any. Does that even make sense? Maybe not.

Just flush the coolant out to be on the safe side. Also check the air filter out, trans fluid, and just change the oil. That way you know you are up to par on maintenance. It would also be a good idea to check a plug to see if it's had a tune up lately.

If buying a new (to you) vehicle, a good once over on fluids and filters before you start running it daily will save you ALOT of headaches, and it helps you get to know your vehicle better.

Thanks guys. Yeah the first thing I did was get the oil changed. I checked all the other fluids with my grandpa...he's an old car guy. Next will be a radiator flush...if that's what it's called!
