Default Jeep is reviving the Grand Wagoneer

http://blogs.chron.com/carsandtrucks...er_only_r.html

CEO says Grand Wagoneer, only `real' Jeeps in company's future

Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed the company's plan to revive the Grand Wagoneer (1978 Wagoneer shown) name for a full-size Jeep coming around 2013.

Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne recently told the press the company is quickly going to take another shot at the market for large, ultra-luxury sport utility vehicles with three-row seating by reviving the Grand Wagoneer name for a full-size Jeep coming around 2013.

The modern Grand Wagoneer likely will be based on the same chassis as today's 2011 Dodge Durango, which shares its Mercedes-originated platform with Jeep's completely redesigned Grand Cherokee. Marchionne said that if he had been in charge at the time, the new Dodge Durango, which has three-row seating, never would have happened. Instead, it would have been reconfigured to be sold by Jeep as the Grand Wagoneer.

The Chrysler chief also said Jeep will return to selling only models that have real off-road abilities.
"Every (Jeep) has to be able to offer a `Trail-Rated' version," he said flatly. "I can't have a Mickey Mouse Jeep."
In the end, Marchionne promises no more confusion about what a Jeep is and what it's about.

Let me guess. They're going to make some adjustments to the Commander and call it the Grand Wagoneer......?

Our Durango is quite a big larger than the Commander. It may be the same frame, but I doubt it.

We'd all love that, but with all the new regulations on cars they'll never make anytiing like an xj again.

It definitely won't be based on the Commander as it was axed at the end of 2010 (thank God). Hopefully the man will stick to his word and we'll see some good offroad vehicles again. Granted, nothing new is gonna compare to our XJ's, but at least we won't have to deal with the compass/patriot anymore

My nieghbor has a Grand Wagoneer, sits in their garage all year except like two weeks where he gets it running again.... They are from Florida, so they are only up here
If Jeep is going to revive anything Id like to see a jeep truck. Here is an Idea....

My Dad had a Jeep J10 in when I was in grade school, guy in my town had it for the truck's entire life... thing was a beast. I really wish my dad didnt sell it.
