I'd be happy with anything but a compass, patriot or liberty. My friend had a compass... it was a four cylinder with a CVT.... pretty pathetic for a Jeep

Keep it going. I'm amazed how similar most of us think.
I agree, a world with no XJ's would be Hell and I know it is hard to think of owning any other vehicle.
I also feel many of the new models are trying to compensate what the XJ offered and I don't understand why they don't bring it back. The XJ has the best of everything.
I would probably go for a commander, wrangler, or a patriot (as a daily driver).
I hate the liberty, compass, and most grand cherokees...the new ones look nice though.

I already have another jeep, & it's a YJ. If I couldn't have either of those, I'd go for a ZJ or a CJ respectively. Yes I'd choose the V8 option for both.

If I couldnt have my XJ anymore then I would just cruise around in my 78 GMC Sierra Classic Camper Special...of course it has the best option ever offered in this truck the 454. I also have the wifes HEMI Charger if I get the need for speed MOPAR style. Id really miss my XJ though. It could never be replaced by another Jeep.

I have to agree that the XJ overall a great Jeep. Ideal passenger functional compartment, and easily modifed for the trails. If taken care of, they last forever.
Second is the LJ. Only produced for two and half years, is a winner. Wheelbase 10" longer than a Tj, body 13" longer. Stock from the factory, a Dana 44 rear with posi-traction, Dana 30 front. Optional Rubicon, Dana 44 front and rear with lockers. Limited production, 1000 only an Unlimited Sahara each identified with a special production serial number. Great long term investment and re-sale value.
We have one of each:
96 Cherokee, 2" lift, exhaust, and more mods to come.
05 Unlimted, 3" lift, 33" KM-2's, Warn 9.5ti, KN cold air, and more.
We enjoy both everyday and will keep for a long time.

My XJ is my DD and my fun vehicle right now, I have been looking for a strictly fun vehicle and have been looking for a J10 Honcho. I just think with the 360 or 401 and Dana axles the thing is a monster.
