Jeep compass/patriot
Have you seen the new Grand Cherokees? There are being made to make sales! For most jeep owners the most "off-roading" they will do is driving in a bit of snow to and from work! They dont need the capabilities of a real Off Road truck, luckily the Wrangler is still a serious off road machine!

The wrangler is still a serious Jeep, I take nothing away from progress and Jeep definately made it look easy, especially the wrangler limited 4 door. I personally DO like the new Jeep grand cherokee, although you are right, it was built for people who will never take it off road especially at a base price of 30k...Maybe in a few years I will consider buying a used one. However, The compass and even the patriot are a disgrace to the jeep name.

I drove a Patriot once, a friend of mine was visiting from out of state and it was his rental car. It's surprisingly NOT spacious inside. I knew it was small, but so is a wrangler and my 6 foot a$$ had no problem driving one of those for five years. There isn't any leg or head room, and the cargo area is surprisingly small. It drove like a Honda civic, I hated it. Its perfect for a small woman that wants something that sits a little higher than a car, but is unfit for man.
As for the Compass, you couldn't pay me to get behind the wheel of one of those....

I had a Patriot 4x4 and has a blast driving it. I did some light offroading and mudding and never had any issues. I couldn't keep it for financial reasons, but before my troubles, I was considering lifting it. I changed my mind when I found out it would cost me over 600$ Canadian to get this lift kit listed 349$ US.-----> http://www.rocky-road.com/patriotsus.html
It's only a 2.125 inch lift.

I am not prejudice against jeep owners, however, what the crap is with all of the 45+ women driving jeep compasses and patriots? I just do not get it, I thought jeep appealed to those who actually know wtf they were supposed to stand for, and not simply "tough" daily drivers for soccer moms.
uhm...have you taken a good look at the compass or patriot? They're not real Jeeps.
That would explain the soccer mom thing.

i think the patriot is a sad replacement for the XJ
at the very least chrysler exects realized they make a mistake killing the XJ for the libbys
maybe/hopefully it will turn into something better down the road

I don't have any experience with the compass, but my sister almost got a 09 Patriot 4x4 limited, they are pretty nice inside, and with awesome MPGs for a Jeep. Its not a hardcore wheeler, but I am sure a rocky road lift kit, skids and decent tires it would make a decent weekend wheeler.
Jeep is just making vehicles that people will buy, and that compete with other companies.
There was a nice long review/write up somewhere, where a guy took a stock patriot wheeling, and he had nothing but good things to say about it.

You make me ashamed to be a female Jeep enthusiast. Those are some pretty sexist sentiments: you should be forced to go "womanless" a year for every negative word you have in this thread against women (drivers). What's wrong with a "tough DD for soccer moms"? What's wrong with a woman wanting a capable vehicle? What's the problem if the mother of your kids wants to drive a "Jeep" to haul her precious cargo? And what makes you think she doesn't know "what it's supposed to stand for"? How old are you anyway?
Sorry Mr. know-it-all, your precious XJ was designed & marketed as a "soccer mom" grocery-getter. Look it up. It's a station wagon with 4WD.

DOn't write off the new Grand Cherokee ... it made it thru the Rubicon trail. How many stock XJs did that? Don't get me wrong: I love my XJ, and I sometimes talk trash like so many do, but the fact is it ain't the greatest vehicle on earth, neither is it the best offroader off the assembly line.
Things to remember: 1) the offroad community is a tiny minority of vehicle buyers. 2) we like the jacked up look, but to the greater public, it's hideous, just like ricers look to us. 3) Not much is geared to our tastes. Get over it guys.
BTW - to the ones who think their heep is so great: have you seen mine? my XJ would put many of you ladies to shame.

Because that's who they are marketed for.

While the XJ may have been a "grocery getter" is was quite capable from Jeep. A minor lift and tires and it could go most places other couldn't. These new jeeps with the IFS make it extremely difficult to add a minor lift lift, let alone anything serious.
I can see that you are from south Jersey, I could have guessed this without actually reading your profile. I am not sexist as you assume that I am, I was actually trying to make a point that the new "jeep" compass/patriot are tarnishing the Jeep brand. I was merely stating my opionion on the types of women or people that tend to drive the aforementioned compass and patriot. I know that there are many women that drive xj's and applaud them for that, IT WAS AN OBSERVATION nothing more.
I do love the XJ even though mine is costing me an arm and leg to maintain. Jeep should be a specialized brand, by becoming too mainstream they are losing their well deserved reputation, and will soon be indistuguishable from kia...Isnt that why we had to bail them out...making pieces of crap that noblody wants, that was my point. Jeep girls are cool with me!
