Default Jeep Cherokee Trim Levels

I had made this list several years ago. I tried to see if I had posted it on here, but I couldn't find it. I made the list while I was bored. So to keep myself occupied I tried to find out what every trim level included. I don't know if it's 100% accurate or complete, but I did my best:

Base (1984-1993) – Basic model, manual everything, steel wheels, basic gauges with “idiot lights”.

Pioneer (1984-1990) – Leather seats optional, center console, rear window washer/ wiper, alloy wheels, chrome grille.

Wagoneer (1984-1990) – Leather seats optional, center console, rear window washer/wiper, alloy wheels, chrome grille, fake wood side façade, dual-stacked headlights.

Chief (1984-1990) – Hood stripes, special graphics, black exterior trim, alloy wheels.

Laredo (1985-1992) – Chrome grille, plaid seats available in 1987, leather seats available in 1992, alloy wheels, lower body side cladding and chrome trim starting 1988.

Limited (1987-1992) – Color-keyed bumpers, gold alloy wheels, gold pinstripes, leather seats, power everything, 8-speaker sound system, overhead console introduced in 1990 featuring compass & temperature gauge.

Limited (1998-2001) – Color-keyed bumpers & side molding, silver alloy wheels, leather seats (heated seats optional starting 1999), overhead console featuring compass / temperature gauge / gas mileage / trip computer, Infinity sound system including door tweeters & amp underneath rear seat. Chrome grille & license plate brow introduced in 2000.

Sport (1988-2001) – Black trim and bumpers, steel wheels, alloy wheels optional starting 1997, manual windows, power windows optional, color-keyed bumpers and grille starting 1998.

Briarwood (1991-1992) – Replaced Pioneer, fake wood side façade.

SE (1994-2000) – Replaced Base, renamed to increase appeal

Country (1993-1997) – Replaced Limited, champagne-colored body side cladding / fender flares / bumpers, silver-colored body side cladding /fender flares / bumpers available 1994. Color-keyed bumpers, grille, & molding in 1997.

Classic (1996) (1998-2001) – Color-keyed bumpers, grille, & molding, dark grey alloy wheels. Upgraded cloth seats standard, leather seats optional, overhead console optional, Infinity sound system optional.

Freedom Edition (2000) – Sport model with special chrome alloy wheels, chrome grille, and molding,

60th Anniversary Edition (2001) – Sport model with color-keyed bumpers, grille & molding, 60th anniversary emblem, special pattern on seats.

Maybe a PO changed them out ? Because I have never seen a Classic with steel wheels. You can have Chrysler email your build sheet if you give them your VIN #.

Just to be clear steel wheels are what is on my jeep right? Maybe your right cause as you mentioned I have yet to see another classic with my wheels. Kinda disapointing as the other classics look so good, but eventually I would like to do either black wagon wheels or dc-2s.

When I was selling used cars, it was very common to swap wheels from one to the other to make a sale or hide other problems. We often had steel rims sitting around that we would use to replace damaged alloys.

That's one of the reasons I left it back in '02. And it was a new car dealership first. The used Cherokees always ended up in the back row.

Yes you can get a build sheet from Chrysler, But they only hang on to them for 20 years. I can not find the right e-mail address for it though, sorry. The list above is wrong. My '91 Limited came with siler alloys, Not gold (Even though I have the gold badge pkg.) Those are called lattice style rims and where used for a few years, and trim levels.Attachment 114256 Here's a copy of my build sheet. Dear Kris:

Now that you mention that could be very well with a wheel swap. The PO got it from a dealer that also was a body shop. It wasn't in an accident, but the alloys could have been crap. Who knows

I was able to pull the build info off of this website using the vin from a 23 year old XJ. I also emailed customer service to get info from them if they can find any which I assume htey can since that support page had the info.

My build sheet says I have r18 tires and 15” rims. The build sheet the person posted above says r16 tires and 15” rims. These build sheets don’t seem… what’s the word… “accurate.”
