Jeep cherokee!! 1985
ok so i am looking around on craigslist for my little brother a jeep cherokee to but for him. well i came across a 1985 4 cylinder jeep cherokee for $800 it has 140k miles runs/drives and is 4x4.
Will this little cherokee get better MPG than the 4.0? will it be as reliable? and if i wanted to later on add a 3 inch lift and 31s would it turn them 31s off road?

Engine: 4.0L upgraded charging system & blue top, flowmaster 44, hi flow cat and two core rad.
I'd hold out for a 4.0 L model, but I'm not sure if the 4cyl would get better fuel mileage.

The four cylinders were reliable engines, they were just gutless. If you're planning on lifting it and going bigger tires I would just hold off for one with the 4.0. The engine I think Atmos is thinking about is the buick 2.8 v6 which arent the best engines, however a few people on here have had good luck with the 2.8s I would still stay away from them. I rather find an 87 and up xj with the 4.0 for the power, reliability and theres really not that much of a difference in mpgs.
