I loved mine at 3.5". Now it seems pretty tiny.
I could spend thousands on makin' it huge, then tear it up, and spen thousands more, but I really have grown attached to it.
Never liked R/C cars much...too fast. Then I saw an rc rock crawler.
Still looked too much like a KOH buggy.
Then I saw scale R/Cs.
They're geared low enough to crawl realistically, or mud.
And they even make a virtually indestructable lexan XJ body.
When it rolls, it has a working winch, or I can pick it up.
Exploded tranny? 40 bucks.
Blew the motor? 35 bucks, and so on.
First one's my "1:1" 96 XJ.
3.5" lift on 30" KM2s, bumperless and winchless but soon to have sliders.
The second one is my 1:9 scale XJ.
EVERY thing is scaled to 1:8.9 ratio.
Full scale 3D interior, bench seat, cargo area shifters and all, 6.5" solid steel long arm lift with dual rate coil overs, front raked out about 3", sitting on scale 37" TSLs with beadlocks.
Leafed with revolvers and anti wrap bars in rear , indestructable bumpers and sliders all metal,THOR gaurds on the corners and plate on the lower doors,
and a winch that'll pull the rig's 8 pounds straight up the line in the air ( though I've made some ****** block to double and triple for scale "extractions").
There's clubs and web forums in every state, so we do trail runs during the crappy months through parks and what not.
If someone gets stuck or rolls we try our best to winch 'em over or yank 'em with straps, ****** blocks and pull palls in mud or sand. No "Hand Of God".
Enough HP that they'll roost mud 2 feet over themselves if needed and enough torque to push a cooler full of beer to ya at the fire no joke.
Just about any make is available for bodies.
It's kinda dorky, but since it's weight, CG and speed are scaled to 1/9th I get my fix whenever I want at a riverside or at an OHV park and my DD stays shiny till it's where the "mini me" is at in real life lol.
Tha's how I "get by" with my tiny XJ
.
There's comps too.
