I am NEW to Jeep and 4WD. I'm trying to identify the front and rear differentials to facilitate fluid change. Don't know whether to use the additive or not. My Jeep is a 1993 Cherokee Country 4.0 4WD with a Auto transmission. I found that the front axle is a DANA, don't know the model, don't know what the rear axle is as there is no tag. I do not believe they are posi units but, not sure. Can anyone help? Thanks, FRED.

pop the covers off. you'll see the little discs if it is. then go buy additive if you like. but if they are original, well they are 20 years old now, so probably worn out. or since it has no tag, maybe it has been serviced... jmho

welcome to the forum!

unless they have been changed by a previous owner,
the front should be a dana 30 and the rear would be a dana 35

Thanks for the replies. I doubt the axles were changed, they "look" stock/original. The Jeep has not been altered at all, still in original condition with 214000 miles on it. I inherited the vehicle from my daughter, a North Carolina car. So, if both differentials are Dana, would the mean they are NOT posi? I've never heard the tell tale "chirp" when making a sharp turn under acceleration.
Thanks again for the feedback.
Fred
