Default I put 4.10s in my XJ...WOW!

So I have a 2000 with a 4.5 Rustys lift running 33's. I've had it like this for the past year and my gas milage sucked ***. So I went to see Ray at Jeeps Unlimited, he hooked me up with some axles out of a 4 banger, my gas milage has improved drastically. I haven't gone through a tank yet but I can see a huge difference in just 1/4 a tank. Plus of course better acceleration, especially on the highway.

Awesome, you can always use more mpg's.

Hay, my 500th post, yay!

about to do the same on mine still getting 17MPG but i have to be careful when i hit the hills it drops way down gear wise. local upullit has some and i am trying to decide if its worth getting the hole D30 even though its a CAD with 4.10s and the D35 rear or just grabbing the gears from both. can't wait to see the actual mileage results on yours.

What gears did you have before the swap, 3.55s?

Were you at 3.55 before? I don't know about lifted vehicles, but I found on my Mustang that when I went to a higher gear ratio, my mpg decreased.

your mustang probably had the same diameter tires on it, in that situation you would see a drop in MPGs because your running at a higher RPM on the highway. Throwing the 33s throws off the final ratio and takes you out of the optimal power curve, going up to 4.10s after that brings you back close to stock ratio.
