Default I was asked to update my MPG after mods...Here you go.

Went and meet up with friends to go fishing. Our vehicle was occupied x4. We did a 6% grade that is 10 miles. Other hills not as steep. Avg speed was 65mph. Jeep ran mainly in 3rd during the last part. Never over heated nor came close. I'd say it ran at 195* or so. Very impressed. With the 4:10 gears it will run better I am sure. Ill put those in next month. Right now, 32" on 3:55 gears. Not the best (I know this comment is subjective).

I got......15mpg.

Did you use a GPS or your odometer to calculate your mileage?

Math.

I know that's how some around here claim their 21mpg. There is room for error. But, I am pretty sure I am right.

Previously, she was getting 13.5mpg. Which is the same I got on my YJ with almost same mods I owned for 3yrs.

Difference?

YJ '93 I rebuilt top end (188k)
XJ '97 (130k)

YJ had 33" tires
XJ has 32" tires.
Both had same manufacture and model.

YJ had cat back 2.5" exhaust
XJ has manifold back 2.5" exhaust.
Both had same muffler

YJ had stock manifold
XJ has 99+ manifold.

YJ had 4:10 gears
XJ has 3:55 gears

YJ and XJ both had k&n intake

YJ had rebuilt 703 injectors
XJ has new 703 injectors

YJ not programmed
XJ Hypertech III

YJ 13.5mpg
XJ 15mpg (will test a few more times)

YJ soft top
XJ roof rack.

Nice man. I hit about the same mileage per gallon with my 33's and 3:55 gears. 14.7mpg.

You have same tires and maybe same wheels (I went with black lugs and caps). I like them. Had them on YJ also.

How do you like the CAD. Better ride?

Factory cargo hider? Where did you get it?

Ya, I know that 6% hill taxed the mpg. Always does on the cars. Suburban does better since i'm not on it as much. It has the 5.3l

Ill post back and see what I get. I think I might get a pinch more out of her. I normally don't drive those hills.

Have you changed your speedo gear to compensate for the 32s?

Funny part was, I didn't mean it to come out that way. But, now I re-read it, its funny . Odometer.

No. Wife and I were talking about it, trying to see if it was off. Ill wait until my gears are in and check it.

Isn't there a chart to use, I forget when I did the YJ how I choose the right gear it needed.

Here's one of several...

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/jeep-speedometer-gears/index.htm

So you saw an improvement of about 10%. Referring to mileage is pointless because your indicated miles are off by about -10% due to the larger tires.

Ya, I saw your post coming from left field.

Well agree to disagree.

Thanks for your link/feedback. Two teeth off. Which according link is 6% off. So, if I am doing 65mph, I am actually doing 68mph

ADD, not deduct the 6% since speedo is off. I am actually going 6% faster than the speedo shows. So, I covered more miles than shown per tank full. So, I gained 18% mpg. Could be more. I post back when driving on my normal route.

My math could be off, its early here still. I recalulated my math and factored in the 6% and came up with....15.9mpg. I'm happy! 13.5 with no roof rack and flat land. 15.9 with roof rack and 6% grade hill that day, and motor mods.

To be honest, I got the control arm drop put in at the same time as the lift, so I don't even know what it feels like without it. For good measure, it rides like it were stock.

The cargo hider came with the Jeep when I bought it.
