Default Howdy from Michigan

Hello everyone. Was looking for info on my Jeep and came across this forum. Hopefully someone can help. I have had my 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo since 02 and never had a problem 'till now. It has a 4.0L straight 6. I grenaded a piston at 210K and now need to repower. My question for the forum is will a straight 6 from a 99 drop right in and bolt up or better yet what years are interchangeable? Thanks for any help you can provide.

welcome to cf.

well i don't know much about the 02 inline 6s. but i do know that they are coilpack ignitions and that didn't start until late 99. i have a 99xj and its build date was june.
so later than that will have coilpacks.

so since your 02 most definately has coilpacks, i would plan on getting the cpu and full harness out of the 99.

then there is the transmission and transfer case to deal with. you must know what urs has and what the 99 has. then base everthing on that.

to answer ur ?.. Yes it will fit, most likely not without some modifications and more research.
you need to fully understand the difference between the 99s and 02s i6 motor,T/C and tranny.
