How can you tell if your XJ has an SYE? I do not know exactly what the previous owner did to it so could you tell me?

Okay, you see that long funnel thing after the transfer case with the piece of the drive shaft that's slipping in and out of it? That's called a slip yoke.

This is what an SYE looks like. See how the funnel thing is missing and the driveshaft has a yoke and joint there instead?:

You do not have an SYE.

Mine (pictured above) is also the 242.

You will know what transfer case you have by what type of 4 wheel drive you have.

If you look inside your Jeep at your four wheel drive shifter, if you have the "FULL TIME" option, then you have a 242. If you lack the "FULL TIME" option, then you have the 231.
