I'd go 3.75

NorCalJeep 09-18-2011 12:58 AM

either 3.75 or 4

Kyle 4x4 4life 09-18-2011 01:10 AM

Kinda depends on how wide of a stance you want, and if in the future you plan on going with wider tires...if your just sticking with the 31's and dont want a wide stance then ya 4" BS would be fine, shoot im pretty sure 4.5" BS would still be plenty fine with 31's...but if you plan on going with a wider tire, or merely want a wider stance than go 3.5" BS.

AoA 09-18-2011 02:00 AM

4.00

caged 09-18-2011 07:01 AM

3.75 would be ideal with a 10.5 - 12.5 tire. but might need to trim so they don't rub the flare or fender.
4.0 bs would be better with a 10.5 tire and no trimming. shouldn't rub.

but if you want a 12.5 tire, then need an 8 inch wide rim with 3.75 backspace and will still touch the stock lower control arm when fully turned. but not enough to really worry about. will be fine with aftermarket control arms.

don't think you can find 3.5 inch, i've never seen them.

but since a 31 is only 10.5 wide, you should be fine with the 4" on an 8 inch rim.

Donnie_K 09-18-2011 07:11 AM

if you wanted a wider tire you'd go with a wider rim, not less backspacing. In most cases anyway once you're at 4" or below.

BlakeDGKleavitt 09-18-2011 10:46 AM

How about bs foe 30x9.50 I'd like a wider stance

jeepokee95xj 09-18-2011 10:59 AM

The BS on a stock Jeep wheel is 5 1/2". When i bought my wheels and tires i got 8" wheels with 3.75" BS cuz i wanted "A wider stance". I wish Ida went with like 4 or 4 1/2" cuz when i get twisted up my tires rub my flares and inner fenders really bad. If ur only gunna run a 30x9.50, u shouldn't have much trouble either way. I'd go with 4 or 4 1/2". Then again, a 30x9.50 should fit just fine on the fact. 7" wheel.

BlakeDGKleavitt 09-18-2011 11:03 AM

I'm gonna do 31s in the future too

Yeah lol, thad work to.... Actually, u wanna know the main reason i decided to get new wheels? It was because i was sick to death and tired of tryin to start my lug nuts way down in the stupid holes on those crappy lookin wheels lol.

JSmith0055 09-18-2011 11:58 AM

when shopping for common steel wheels like cragars, soft 8's and what not, you'll notice most have either 4" or 3.75" give or take a little less, and it really wont make much of a difference they all will clear, all that comes in to play is how wide you want your stance

My wheels are Pro-Comps, They pretty much look just like the Cragars, or Barts, or w/e, but they sposed to have double the welds and be twice as stong as any of the other ones. Plus they aint got that gay blue/red pin stripe round the bead lol. Anyway, when i odered them, i had BS choices of 3.75", 4", 4 1/2", or 5".

They'll fit on your factory rims just fine, sure... but they won't fit on your jeep with stock rims just fine unless you consider rubbing fine.

Well mine rub now, and it's fine, but they rub Bcuz i got not enuff BS. What would a 31 on a fact wheel rub on with a 3" lift?

Im assuming it'd rub on LCA.

JSmith0055 09-18-2011 03:31 PM

I would stay 3.75 or 4

It's not that you don't have enough back spacing, it's that you have too much backspacing. The less backspacing you have, the further out it moves the rim. Lift doesn't matter in that aspect, it's the lower control arms you're hitting.

O I see. Mine rubs the fender flares because i don't have enuff backspacing and the tire sets out too far. It rubs the lower rear corner of the flare when i turn.

Sawzall would take care of that in a hurry:icon_biggrin:

jeepokee95xj 09-18-2011 07:47 PM

Yeah lol, but i was tryin to keep my front tires from slingin all the water and grit and grime all up in my door hinges, so insteada pullin the whole inner fender well i just trimmed it a lil. Slings everything in there anyway. I thought about fillin the fenders with GreatStuff but idk if that's a good idea...

Haha ya i need to fill mine in...i heard pool noodles work pretty good...just cut, paint, and stuff it up in there.

jeepokee95xj 09-19-2011 04:16 AM

Idk lol, GreatStuff seems likea better idea than a pool noodle.

less backspacing will keep the wider tire away from the control arms.
a wider rim will put those same tires against the control arms.
get it?

If you want to retain water and speed up the rust.

What would you reccomend?

Donnie_K 09-19-2011 04:14 PM

seal up all exposed metal and then stick some pool noodles in there... lol. Seriously, and spray in foam type stuff is going to retain moisture and cause rust. at least the pool noodles you can pull out to clean in there to prevent rust.

caged 09-20-2011 10:30 AM

go with the pool noodle.

you can paint it whatever colour you like.
