yeah i dont think i will have to learn that program but im not sure. Its fun to see that others are using their skills to design some cool parts. Its amazing what some of you proffesionals can do. Im in my sophmore year of college going for an ME major. So far I like it but this year is a lot of bookwork and thats never fun.

I saw this thread and thought i would share what i do when im bored. And i also agree that pro/e is this beez neez! I can do some pretty crazy things with surfaces in Pro/e.
Although i did this in Inventor.
I designed a 4-link setup that is capable of a massive amount of flex! Its not finished as you can see, I just started it yesterday. So some of the constraints are a little off.

Cool, you should do some four link calculation (i use 4 link calculator v2.0) for the correct triangulation of the rear links, there is also a free software on pirate4x4 but i can't find the link at the moment, ask user EndlessMtnFab and have a look at his build thread.
If you want to keep the arms parallel you prolly will need a track bar on both axles.
Good job, i like the tires, what sketcher operation did you use?

I have the 4_link calc from Pirtate 4x4... But i just havent gotten that deep into it yet. I can always move them around, not a big hassle. Like i said im just screwing around. I will eventually add the shocks, springs and tracbars.
As far as the tires. I just sketched a profile, extruded it, then polar pattern. Nothin fancy, just didnt think the bald ones look very good haha.
Im actually struggling with the johnny joints. since there modeled after the real thing. I cant figure out how to constrain them with limits of rotation on the ball, so they just twist inside the brackets. You can see it on the rear axle on the left upper axle bracket.

right now its just using normal assembly constraints. I havent tried any animation with it yet because it doesnt have tracbars, so the axles go all over hell.

I think you can't do that with inventor. You want to give rotational constraints to the JJs at a given angle.....hmmmm
How many parts in the JJ assembly?

The JJ is 2 peices.. The ball shaft rotates inside the equal diameter ball inside the casting.
THIS IS MY PROBLEM!
Is there any way to only make it rotate within the limits of the casting?

Looks great! I want to model up some things for my Jeep. I always say, "It's cheap while it's still digital". Does anybody know where I can get a solid model of an XJ? My career is working with Solidworks (Sometimes-Works, SolidQuirks) so i'd be able to draw this stuff up in no time and see how it looks. I already tried looking on 3Dcontentcentral.com and found a CJ but no XJ. Let me know if you 3D guys have one.
Take a look at this!
