Well, after sending back a very specific email that answered the questions posed to me as well as providing them additional information, they are sending me a new assembly.

They did ask me to verify that no one had switched out the gears for a 3:73 and that it was still a 3:55. We had not actually checked that when we got it as I had asked them prior to shipment what the gear ratio was and they told me it was a 3:55.

Needless to say, I will have the guys at the towing place check the gears. I know the requirement was for a 3:55 as we verified the gearing of the old differential before I bought the replacement. Not sure why they want me to verify this but I have no problem doing this.

What axle are you putting in this thing? Is it lifted? Dana 44?

Why would you purchase an axle assembly with 3.55 gears?!

This is a pure stock vehicle that my son bought. Dana 30 setup with standard 3:55 gearing. My understanding is the 3:73 gearing was put in vehicles with a tow package which this does not have. I have the guy at the towing place verifying the rear differential ratio as well in the off chance that the rear is actually a 3:73 instead of a 3:55.

My son verified that the original front diff was a 3:55 so the assumption was that the rear was 3:55 as well. May have been a bad assumption but given the fact that the vehicle was running with the 3:55 front before he bought it and made it up to DC with no problems from Norfolk after he bought it, it was a pretty solid bet that the assumption was a fact. Regardless, I am making absolutely sure that things are straight before the repairs are done.
