I'd like to build my two wheel drive XJ in to a prerunner like the ones from Jeepspeed I plan on taking it to the desert and going on some little jumps in the desert and dunes is strictly going to be used as a toy prerunner type vehicle not a crawler will a lift kit Help soften the landing? Or is it just for looks? What else do I need to do for a stock XJ to be able to do some jumps?

Question is, why would you want to jump a Cherokee?

I do not want to buy a trophy truck I want to build my Jeep into one like the ones on Jeepspeed and soften the suspension this is going to be my toy. I'm going to make it into a prerunner build All doors and interior are going to be ripped out to make it lighter and I'm installing a roll cage but for now I would like to know how the jeeps on jeepspeed speed are able to jump that high is it because they have special shocks? Whill a lift kit do anything? I would only like advice on how to build a jeep into a prerunner

Badass shocks like coilovers. Convert the rear to coilovers and I think a lot of those guys are only running 2wd jeeps. Gotta make them lighter, the 4100 lbs stock weight doesn't help. Where are you located?

It's a major endeavor to build an XJ that will handle those jumps. Can buy a built one here; http://www.jeepspeed.net/smf/index.php

I jump mine regularly, but in sand which is forgiving and absorbs energy. Useing BDS 7-leafs with military wrap. Progressive bumpstops front and rear. What also is important is that all of the suspension/steering components can handle rapid cycling from full droop to full compression.

It's the opposite, you will need a more firm suspension than what most offer. Look at Clayton, Deaver, Currie, BDS

I agree.
I hate to send someone away who's looking for knowledge, but it isn't a topic we really work with on this forum. Most of us are unfamiliar.

As for the people telling him not to, you can leave the thread. It's been done many times, and there's no reason he can't do it, too. But it is EXPENSIVE to build a Cherokee that can handle that. The guy I know who races one has about $20k invested because he breaks something every race. He earns prizes and has sponsorships to offset the cost.

As for the "You can't jump it" comments, I jumped my Comanche six times with the bed loaded down, and I drove 8 hours on the highway the next day. Kuzican saw me jump my Wrangler more than 3ft in the air. Jeeps are durable. Doing it repeatedly, like someone said above, is a matter of setting up suspension for rapid cycling so it doesn't fatigue the springs or overheat the shocks

I remember that picture, the axle was peeking out of the bed because it jumped when the jeep jumped. Fun!
