How Can i Tell if my Jeep came with Keyless Entry.
Just Picked up a 1998 XJ Sport. How can i tell if my Jeep came with Keyless Entry? It has Power Locks but the guy who i purchased it from didn't have a FOB and he didn't know, also how can i tell if my Jeep uses the transponder key? the key i was given with the jeep didn't look like a transponder key, and the Jeep won't start, so i'm wondering. Hummmmmm.

fill out the form with the last 8 digits of VIN number and the rest of the required info. In the comments part, tell them that you want the build sheet to see what came with it. They will email it to you shortly. I sent mine late last night and it was in my email this morning.

I believe you would have to go to a Jeep dealer for that. I'm not sure on that at all, but seems to me like it would be the easiest way to do it. I would probably call a Jeep dealer to see, or wait and see on here, someone will know.

Good post
I searched remote entry and this came up, the build sheet link is good and I ordered one.
I am trying to clarify, I am looking to see if mine came with remote door locks, is the other guy asking about a chip in the ignition key?
Thanks
John

No xjs that I am aware of had chipped keys. You can go anywhere (ace hardware) and get a key made for a few bucks and it will start the jeep and unlock the doors.
As for the key fob I'm sure you can order them but it will need to be programmed to your jeep.

Unless someone switched out the ignition system then you don't need a chipped key as no XJs ever came with them. I also wouldn't waste my money on the factory keyless entry. It's infrared and basically useless because you need a direct line of site. You basically have to be standing next to your Jeep pointing it directly at the sensor to get it to unlock.
