Question How can i beef up my xj performance?

Hey guys,
I have a completely stock 1996 xj with 4x4 and the 4.0 High Output. It has plenty of torque right now. I don't know much about cars but I do know I need more ponies pushing this jeep down the road. Any help or suggestions? As well as for tires or anything in general because I really want to mess around with it. I bought it for dirt cheap because I knew it could be a good toy.

Thanks,

Q-Berry

703 injectors, change the location of the intake air temp sensor to the air box, 99+ intake manifold, and a performance muffler will help. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A "PERFORMANCE CHIP", they do nothing that they claim.

A Hemi helps, but for the 4.0 breathing is the key. Without a stroker kit you will be limited on where you top out but you can definately improve the seat of pants feel.
Cold air intake to good filter, upsize the throttle body, fresh injectors, Accell ignition coil, excellent quality ignition wires and components, header, performace free flowing cat, 2.5" pipes, and straight thru flow muffler. That's about it for easy bolt on. Beyond that a supercharger although engine life span will be reduced, you won't be able to keep your foot out of it. Then you get into engine internal building and machine work.
