Default Hood Vent Material~Where to get this?

I've been on the hunt for a slightly unique hood vent set up. I came across a thread that a guy posted his pics but he isn't around anymore. When asked about what material it is, at the time he responded that it was "just some old mill stuff" Does anyone know the specific name and/or where to purchase this? I haven't seen it in any Home Depot, Lowe's, or local Hardware store. I appreciate the help.

I saw one where a guy used that aluminum sheeting that you put on the grill for vegetables, looks a lot like that. I plan on using it for mine.

Yeah, it's the Grill-o-sheet from Lowe's. I was originally going to do that. I actually have it cut and painted at my house. I actually did this in my FIlL's Jeep with him and didn't want to copy the look exactly so I was looking for something a little different. Plus, I plan on going a little larger with my hood vents and I'm not sure the sheets will hold up. They are pretty thin to be covering such a large area. I came across a website that sells grill material and they have it in a video demonstrating a buffer ball but they don't have the actual grill listed on the website. I emailed them and I'm hoping they get back to me with availability. The holes in the grill I posted in the picture are much smaller than the Grill-O-sheets and give it a different look. You are probably referring to these?

That's exactly what I was talking about and I understand wanting to be different.

Yeah, those vents are friggin awesome looking. I like them better on the dark colored Jeeps though. I've seen them on lighter colors and I didn't like them as much. I'm thinking I won't like them on my blue color. I saw these and I like how there is no border on them. Makes them a little less obvious. I'll keep searching and hopefully someone will know where to get this stuff.

They do look good on the dark Jeeps and it might look fine on your blue, I think it'll look good on my gray. Good luck on the search.

search for "perforated aluminum sheet" or "expanded aluminum sheet" on google. you should run across some companies that sell different styles of this stuff. i ran across several when i was looking for perforated aluminum for the floor of my boat. they have different size and shaped holes. once you get an idea of what you want you can order it online or print off the description and take it to your local steel supplier. they can come up with anything you might need.

if there are any fabrication shops that use aluminum in your area they might have scraps laying around.

Hood vents are not the answer to your overheating problems.

I'm thinking I need to flush the radiator. And maybe put a new thermostat in?

I appreciate the idea of the Lebaron vents. But like I said, I'm looking for something a little more unique. There's gotta be a million XJ's with these on already.

I agree with the subwoofer grill look but they normally don't come that large and normally aren't flat like that. They are normally rounded. Any idea where I could find some huge flat pieces?

That's Perforated sheet metal. Profile is flat. If you look at expanded, you can also get expanded in flattended condition. Consider stainless, harder to find and costs more, no rusting issues. Talk to a steel distributor or specialty metals broker to get a less than full sheet quantity.
