Search craigslist for cheap springs. I spent 60 on my 2.5" springs from a friend.
Get good shocks, upgrade the control arms, mounts, track bar, steering, etc with the best you can afford. Cut your fenders to clear whatever tire size you need (31s fit stock with minor trimming) and add bumpstops. I run 33s on 2.5" and plan to run 35-36s on the same height (better axles of course)

Buy the tires.. You can run 30" tires at stock height. You just have to be careful when you go flexy. But some spacers in the front and either a longer shackles or B-pack for the rear and you'll be set.

The first question you need to ask yourself...
What is my time worth?

If you want to spend it looking for parts in a JY tearing stuff apart and then going home to tear your stuff apart, install your "New" parts to gain just a couple of inches....then go ahead and start scrounging.

But, if time is a valuable commodity you'll be miles ahead by purchasing a budget boost.

IDK, we got my Friends 3.5 inch lift(3.5'' springs, bastard pack, and JK shocks) for about 70 bucks and had it out of the JY and on the Jeep in about 8 hours.
