I have found a 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ classic limited for $2500 with 167,000km (Australia) that looks pretty stock. What do you guys think and what should I look out for?
That looks nice. How does the underside look? I imagine this being Australia, it looks good.
You are looking for maintenance mostly now. How many parts of the original have been replaced? Especially in the belt drive path. Look at the break and fuel lines. Whatever is original, assume you will have to change soon (except for engine and trans)
Most importantly, how do the engine and transmission sound and feel. If they have been maintained with regular oil and fluid changes, then they should be good. Ask the owner for any maintenance records. Look at the oil on the dip stick.
Also look at the cooling system - hoses, water pump, thermostat, and radiator. Look at the radiator fluid and see how it looks. It should look bright green, not too dirty. If you have mud in there, then that's a problem.
Take it out for a drive and see how it shifts and brakes and all that.
If the windshield is original, expect to change it. By now the urethane that holds it is dry and cracking.
Can't really tell from the pics, but the tires look a little worn, so you may have to take that expense into account in the near future.
Good luck.

Has it had a replacement tailgate? It says Limited on the wings but Classic on the tailgate. Maybe that's just a random sticker but you might want to investigate for rear end damage just in case.
Otherwise, it looks great and I have a soft spot for the older style interior.
