Hello & Quick Question
Hi everyone,
I bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee a couple years ago. Everyone who sees it loves it. Is the 01 Cherokee one of the best Jeeps? I am considering trading it in for a wrangler unlimited, but something this jeep makes me want to lift it, slap new tires on, and make it my own.
Any thoughts?

I still owe about 5k on it, but that will be paid off during my next deployment. The Cherokee has about 70k miles on it, but it was born and raised in California, so there isn't a lick of rust on her. I really want that feeling of freedom that comes from a Wrangler, but I don't want to kick myself in the butt for getting rid of a really good Cherokee at the same time.

I USED to be a Wrangler Fan and owner, I wouldn't trade my XJ for any Wrangler, EVER.
Except for the crappy head and low pinion front dif the 2001 is just as good as any XJ, both of which can be replaced cheaply at a Junkyard. IMO, XJ is supperior to the Wrangler, especially the Unlimiteds. XJ is roomier, better on the street, quieter (unless mangler is Hardtop), Near equal offroad, XJ is lighter. Wrangler is more respected as far as COOL factor is concerned, but being a cool car wont get you from point A to B.

If you tow alot, are in water and mud alot, or drive too fast, Discs are better. Rear discs are not IMPORTANT in an XJ, but they are an Upgrade over the drum. They do stop better and they do FEEL better, but that doesn't make rear discs a priority. Your XJ will never stop like your modern car, no matter what brakes you have. Disc are much easier to maintain and don't require adjustment like the drums.

Go look at the lift and tire thread and see what all you can do with and XJ. I wouldnt get rid of my 2 wheel drive cherokee for a wrangler, but thats my opinion.
