Hello all, new proud xj owner
Hi everyone,
just joined up and have never done this sort of thing before. I just got my xj and would need some help please. How can I find out what rear ends/front end I have as well as tranny and all that sort of stuff.
I have a 98 xj sport 4x4. It came with a hitch from chrysler I think, but how can I tell if its a class 3 or whatever. Also I read that if it came from the factory it would have different gears and tranny cooler etc. Someone took the tag off the rear so I cant check that way. Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Thank-you in advance, 98xjeeper.

Welcome to the cherokee forum first of all....
You have, a 4.0 inline 6 motor, (AW-4) 4-speed automatic transmission, Dana 30 front end, and most likey chrysler 8.25 rear end... you most likely have 3.55 gears, as thats what mine came with and i have the standard towing package as well, with the tranny cooler.
Do you have ABS? Im pretty sure you cant get a Ch8.25 rear end if you have ABS. So in that case you would have a dana 35.
You can tell by looking at the Pig or the "pumpkin" on the axle... If it has a flat bottom, its a CH8.25 and if it doesnt than its a Dana 35.
And remember the internet is your friend!! There is so much information about your jeep on these types of websites! Just search your questions in google and it will usually bring you to a jeep forum.

go to this site: http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universa...ull&category=U , you will need to write saying you are the current owner, and they will email you a copy of the build sheet for you Jeep. The sheet lists the equiptment and option installed on your rig at time of MFG

you can email chrysler and ask them for your build sheet and give them your vin number and they can tell you everything that came with your jeep from the factory
