I got the H4 wiring upgrate kit that is plug and play with the relays, and hooks to the battery, and along with that some H4 housing off ebay for like 30 bucks. Pep Boys for some brighter white bulbs and can see ton's better. With that H$ wiring upgrade, I can go to a 100w bulb, just ordered some, but haven't put them in yet.

And BTW, I'm up in MN and gets pretty darn cold u here in the winter as well, and haven't had an issue with the bulbs last winter. Haven't run them with the new better wiring tho, but can't see how that would effect negativily.

IPF Rectangular Headlight Housing
H4 100/80w Hella Standard Bulb (you might want to stay with 60/55w to stay legal)

I wouldn't run 100W bulbs on stock wiring, there are lots of guys with burnt headlight switches even with stock bulbs. Seems like a recipe for underdash fire to me. And the voltage drop wouldn't give you the full advantage of the new bulbs. Better to run relays, and heavier wire from battery. (Kits available, use existing wiring to pull in relays, that switch power from battery through fuses then directly to headlights)
