Default Has anyone ever owned a Wrangler?

....or currently own one?

How much worse is the MPG's on a Wrangler than an XJ, assuming they have the same size tires, (or close).

How much worse is the ride quality/ wind noise of the Wrangler than the XJ?

Was your Wrangler more or less problems than the XJ?

I want to get a TJ, but if the MPG/ride/noise is much worse than my XJ.....Imma get one anyway, just wondering what to expect.

you will notice the wind noise.... jeeps with the 4L are practicaly the same minus the looks.

a tj will drive much nicer over an xj with the rear coils

I have a 92 yj 4 cyl 4 inch lift on 33's. full leaf.ride is a little rough and you can't hear anything but the road noise. Wranglers are cool though its fun to drive.

I had a 99 TJ 4cyl. 5 Speed. Loud in the cab, once you take the hard top off it never seals again.... TJ rides really nice.

I wouldn't buy another 4cyl., If you're gonna get one, pick up a 6 cyl. I loved mine & was gonna get another one, but I was not gonna pay the price for it. that's why I'm in my XJ now. I'll probably get another one at some point.
Good luck

Loud from what, the wind hitting that barn door of a windshield, or from mud tires?

I would think a hard top with AT or road tires would be fairly quiet on the interior.

I had a 93 YJ and wind noise was waaaay loud compared to any other vehicle but worth it the few months a year to bake in the sun topless. Tire noise is the same as a cherokee, it depends on tire type. Mpgs were basically the same as a XJ. The only thing I didnt like was being high off the ground (SOA/37x12.50s), short wheelbase and narrow (D30/8.8), it felt like it was going to fall over every time it was on a steep hill lol. Other than that it was cool... but nothing compares to a cherokee. If I couldn't have an XJ I would buy another YJ or an early TJ

yeah, there's a little bit of wind noise from the wind seeping through the top of the windshield between the hard top.
the soft top actually seals better on my tj using the no drill header.

but the doors are usually off during the warm days (on the tj).

little worse on fuel, they are a bit heavier than an xj, plus the flatter windshield doesn't help either.

the xj is a much better ride.

I don't own one but my dad owns a 2004 TJ Sport on 30" mud tires. I learned to drive in it and its a lot like a Cherokee. About the same MPG between the two, high teens or low twenties. About the same road noise other than mud tires whining. No major problems yet. It's still a 4.0, needs basic fluid changes with normal wear and tear. Only thing I don't like about it is the lack of space but that's expected.

I had both a Tj and Yj. On windy days they get their asses kicked more then the Xj. They also were a little more sensitive to steering with the short wheelbase. The Xj is better climbing ledges. Asfar as ride. It's all in the suspension you run. I had alcan springs on my Yj with Bilstein shocks it rode better then my TJ IMO.

Asfar as reliability they are about the same only had to replace a clutch on the Yj when I bought it. Nothing after that. Gas milage is maybe 1-2mpgs less then that of an Xj.

I plan on getting another YJ within the next year or two as a project Jeep for me and my son to build. ( LS1/Nv3500 OME lift and 31's with a 8.8 rear and 4.10 gears ) Once it's done till be my DD. cause the XJ is the family wheeler. Then I can start on my 4seater buggy build.

Other than the road noise, wind noise and sunburn it was enjoyable, girls dig wranglers. The 4banger was alright kept close to stock, 4L parts(some) can give you a little boost. could only stand to drive it on long road trips about 300mi at a time, my back and butt hated going more than that. Fun though a 93 and a 91 not owned but borrowed ALOT.

I'm not sure what year it was, a 88 or 89..maybe 90. My friend bought one brand new and had to replace an axle 3 times in one year. All under warranty but after the 3rd time he got rid of it.

A buddy of mine has a yj he gets 15mpg on a good day,I have rode in it before rides about the same as a xj.The wind noise is worse when you have a soft top the hard top cuts down a lot of it.
