has any one removed the factory weld nuts for the rear bumper?
I have an aftermarket rear bumper that uses the 8 rear bumper bolts. I really don't trust the bolts and I can get some flex out of the bumper/ chassis with my rear tire holder. I would like to replace the nuts and use some grade 8 hardware and a steel plate and nuts to replace the factory welded nuts.
Whats the best way to get them out. My hitch kinda gets in the way. Longer bolt and a BFH?
What have you guys done to make it more stout?

i replaced the upper factory weld nuts for my rear shocks, i just used an air chisel and punched them off, could try that to get them off, or if u dont have an air chisel could use a regular chisel and a hammer

Does yours have tie in brackets for the bumper ? Those make a lot of difference in rigidness and may be a better solution if you dont have them already.
here is a set with pics showing them mounted. http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/...egory_Code=XJB

well I can access the back where the nuts are.
I think the problem with the bumper flexing is because all the support is just where the nuts are. A steel plate vertically would support alot more weight on the sheet metal.
