the "baby seals being clubbed" is the turbo by-pass valve that opens every time you step off the gas pedal so that the rurbo continues spinning at 100.000 rpm and as soon as you put the foot back on the gas you have immediately full power and almost no turbo lag..

I know what a BoV sounds like. It was a joke. Show me where you can buy THAT car from an Audi dealership. I dare you. You can't, because that specific car wasn't offered for sale. Oh sure, the base car it was modeled after was offered for sale, but it was nowhere near that gnarly.
And believe what you want about the AWD thing...but it's true. If I can find the writeup for it, I'll post it for you. In dry or inclement weather, the BMW system outperformed Quattro pretty handily.
*edit* I can't find the article, but it was in the November, 1988 issue of Road and Track. Here's a quote:

*edit* I can't find the article, but it was in the November, 1988 issue of Road and Track. Here's a quote:
The rear traction bias of the iX and its balanced front-to-rear weight distribution provide superior traction on low friction surfaces when compared to the Audi 90, the Audi 90 Quattro, and the rear drive BMW325is. Road and Track ("Snow Test", Nov,'88) concluded, "Front-drive cars do not like to accelerate on slick surfaces." R and T also concludes that the 90 Quattro does not perform as well as the iX, saying, "Our acceleration champ was the iX. The AWD BMW was a blink quicker than the Quattro to 20 mph, 4.9 sec vs. 5.1 sec." In the hill climb, R and T says, "Once again, the BMW AWD system proved superior to the Quattro arangement." In the lane change, R and T says, "And again, the 325iX was the best."

The S1 quattro stopped production in 1985 but there are plenty of used ones for sale if you have enough money.

beleive it or not, it's the same car. The obvious differences are the absence of the spoilers and stickers hahaha
The engine, tranny, diffs and all the drive train is the same.
Power was locked to 400 hp with a rev limiter but... ya know...
They still produce a body kit to make it exactly like the Pikes Peak version that won in 1985.

how can you compare two cars with 23 years of difference? There was 0 electronics in the Audi, no traction control, no electronic injection, nothing...
100% mechanical and drivers ability.
The suzuki has 300 hp more than the audi.
let's compare the timing:
Rohrl back in 1985 did it in 10'47.22"
Tajima in 2008 did 10'14.08"
only 34 seconds of difference... after 23 years
now who's better?

The only car+driver that i accept could compete with the S1 is the Lancia Delta S4, 1.8 four cylinder turbo+supercharger 640hp driven by Henry Toivonen.
Rohrl is just better because he did not tragically die like Toivonen, and note that i am Italian and i have a natural inclination towards Italian cars but i still prefer the Audi.
