Default Gunmetal vs Steel Blue?

We just got an ‘01 Cherokee Sport. Rear hatch was replaced cheaply and primed black by seller. It’s Steel Blue paint color. Was looking at replacing it with a hatch already painted same color as opposed to having it painted. My question is are Steel Blue ‘01 and Gunmetal ‘99(one I’ve located) the same exact color?

No, steel blue is darker. Paint code is AY112XBQ (XBQ) or AY97XBQ (PBQ).

You can get spray cans of your factory paint color, I rattle canned my back hatch and it turned out better than expected.

Look for Duplicolor Perfectmatch paint at the parts store. The cans are not all that big imo, so grab a couple. Check every can to make sure its correct.

At this point I think I’m leaning toward spray cans. 3 coats plus 2 coats of clear coat. I’ll post pics once it’s done.

Don't forget the primer, sand it down with 120 grit or so first, then wipe it off with laquer thinner, prime, paint and clearcoat.
