Going to look at a cherokee on Wednesday...advice please
I'm going to look at a cherokee on Wednesday, it is bone stock with 71k on it. What things should I look for that could be problematic and maybe help lower the cost. It looks like a super clean rig but nothing is perfect.

check the head casting number. if the price is right and you dont have problems turning wrenchs your looking mainly for the stuff that is super hard to fix. rust damage under the jeep. also look for bent unibody. make sure 4wheel drive works. and basic stuff like shocks tires and such make sure to drive it up to highway speed if possible. see if the engine get up to temp and puts out hot air.

It's not like it's going to have problems it's more of a "what if"
My 2001 blew a head gasket, only because my radiator busted and it over heated. So it wasnt like it happened just because it has "head issues." its more of a one thing led to another. Fixed that and the gasket and it's been running like a top for the past 20k miles. I plan on keeping my 01

It will have the 0331 head, but that's more of a "if it has a problem with overheating" type of thing. The 0331 does not equal a death sentence. Make sure it's clean underneath with no rust (poke around for soft spots) and ask for any past records (some dealers will hang onto them if the previous owner gave them turned them in). Go in with 'x' amount in cash, a little less than they're asking. Cash always talks so do some haggling. If you can, have another person go with you that is mechanically inclined and can help spot stuff that will give bargaining room.
