Make sure youre tuned up, good plugs, filter, wires, cap rotor. O2 sensors play a role in it as well, if they are throwing a code replace asap. Sometimes as o2 sensors age they get lazy and can affect mpg. Inflate your tires evenly and make sure you are within alignment specs to reduce rolling resistance. You can also over inflate by a few psi but that may affect ride quality. Remove any excess weight that you dont need to carry. If you are lifted and running big meats, then regear. All that should get you good mpg and by good i mean like 20-23 highway.

If you are serious about mpg then check out ecomodders.com for driving tehniques, body mods and engine mods for super economy.

i no most people aren't going to agree with me on this but im getting better gas mileage with a 5.5" long arm and 31's than I was 2 weeks ago stock. All I did was the lift and tires and all fluids. did nothing performance wise and the fluids were due for a change. I did notice that with 29's I was running 2000 rpms at 60mph. now going 60(prolly more since the tires offset the speedo slightly) Im running 1700-1800. So If I can keep it in 4th gear Im getting 18ish when before it was more like 16.

Just a little FYI, the new 2011 V6 pentastar engines in Grand Cherokee's get 32 MPG on highway. Once the engine coasts at 65 MPH it reverts back to 4-cylinders called "economy".

In the city it gets 22 MPG. Thats not too bad at all

I think i would agree... the engine is spinning slower... But if you have a hilly area where you have to down shift you will go right back to the 16 or so.

The engines of tomorrow under new technology will be 6 or 8 cylinders, but will coast at cruising speeds using only 4 cylinders.

So bad gas mileage will be a thing of the past
