Has anyone used flexy rubber flares to extend the original fender flares on the older version of the XJ´s? Might be a sensible low cost way to cut down the cost of purchasing factory made wide flares. I found a photo of these flares on a newer body XJ and am attaching it here for further info. In my opinion it looks pretty nice. Has anyone used these flares on the older XJ body?

I am actually considering reinstalling my stock flares up higher like I used to have them before I got my armor. The mud flying onto my windshield and windows gets annoying while wheeling. I would add those extentions to them no problem. Seems like a good idea without spending money on flares that get smashed all the time. They look decent for what they are. I would like to know where that exact rubber came from.

Hi Helmut, (German name)
The photo of the jeep in question is not mine I found it on this thread : http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f215/...lares-1110846/ I personally like it and intend to install similar extensions on my 1993 Xj I am currently working on. I will attach a photo of mine. Greetings from Iceland

Just took a look at the closeup of the flares. The steel reinforced ones would work great for the newer style XJ flares to make them into flat flares. I would cut the sides of the flare off making it flat and then extend them using those extensions. Then trim the fender itself up even with the flare. I might give this some thought. Thanks for the link.

No problemo. Hey I looked at your jeep photos. What kind of Roof Rack do you have?

the extensions in that first picture appears to simply be just garden edging nicely cut and fixed to the stock flare.
simple and effective.

Yeah, I am obviously not going for looks with these. Just tired of having the windows covered in mud while wheeling. Rather be flareless too and I am , but after more wheeling I decided it seems more of a necessity for me. And no, those bushwakers are not going to cut it, and I will not spend 500$ on flat flares. Thats out of the question, so these look like a good option for an offroad rig.
