Fitting a centre cap to wheel
Just got my 99 XJ last week. One wheel was missing the centre cap so I got replacement off ebay. Do I need to take wheel off to fit the centre cap? It has three threaded screws on the wheel and two blank holes that are matched on the cap with three holes and two plastic spikes.
Thanks

The plastic threads on those caps tend to get stripped after a couple thousand miles and become loose from what Irish XJ said.
If you have any loose ones, here's what i did.
With preferably a bottoming tap, drill and tap the stripped threads out to the 'next' larger size diameter.
Then use the right length and thread size machine bolts to fasten the cap back on. Works like a champ.
