Default First 4x4 Trip: Sand Dunes; Questions

All:

I am planning to take my 99 XJ to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in northern Michigan on Saturday. This will be my first 4x4 outing and although I have upgraded the Jeep with a new engine and suspension (3"), I am wondering what else I may need to think about. For instance, what supplies should I have with me just in case? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Jamie

do you have tow hooks or recovery points? are you going during the day or night?
If at night I would upgrade your headlights... and a CB radio could never hurt either..

I do have recovery points front and rear. I will pick up a tow strap and pack some tools, but what about a shovel or a jack? What else should I be thinking about? It will be a day trip.

A jack won't really help in the sand it would jus sink shovel would be useful and a piece of wood like a 2x4 so when you start digging an sinking you can put the board under the tires to catch traction

The board and air consideration is good. I understand that air supply is available right outside the dunes. I was told to pressure down my 31x10.5s to around 11 PSI. What else? Think.

you can also take a piece of wood as a floor for the jack so it wont sink and it will still be useful.
