A few questions for RE 3.5" lift owners
Got some questions for those of you running the Rubicon Express 3.5" lift! I know it's a popular lift and I've been searching and reading old threads for days, but I figure better to have as much info as possible before undertaking a large project. I'm hoping to put together a lift using some of the RE 3.5" pieces along with some other parts I've already got, and want to make sure it all works together. If you guys that are running the RE 3.5" could take the time to answer I would really appreciate it
-How much actual lift did it give you front & rear? Please state if you have an aftermarket bumper, winch, tire carrier, heavy subwoofer box, etc that might effect your ride height.
-Did you need to use an aftermarket track bar or relocate the stock one?
-Did you need a T-case drop, SYE, or rear spring shims?
-What kind of shocks are you running and how do you like the ride?

This is based off my experience from when I had this lift on my old 88 XJ. I no longer own it BUT I sold it to a very close friend who still has it with the lift intact.
~4" in the front and ~4.5" initially. It eventually settled to right around 4" all the way around. It was installed in 2003 and it is still at that height today.
Custom steel rear bumper that helped sag the rear down to 4".
Relocated stock. Sucked. Has a JKS on it now. MAJOR improvement.
TC drop that was included worked. It has an SYE on it now though.
Originally had DT3000s. Ride was so-so. Has Rancho 9000s on it now. Rides better but my 1997 XJ with RE Monotubes rides even better yet.

My first XJ lift was a R 3.5" and I had to install an SYE.
I ran BDS shocks initially but blew out a few rather quickly. They were under warranty but it was still a hassle to have to replace them in less than a year.
Go with as good of quality of shocks as you can possibly afford....your rig will thank you

See responses in bold.
-How much actual lift did it give you front & rear? Please state if you have an aftermarket bumper, winch, tire carrier, heavy subwoofer box, etc that might effect your ride height. About 4.5 front 5 rear. No bumpers or anything. Just a 12" sub with box.

Yes I used a aftermarket one from RC, because it was cheap.
-Did you need a T-case drop, SYE, or rear spring shims?
No, I lucked out. No vibes at all, but every xj is different.
-What kind of shocks are you running and how do you like the ride?
Skyjacker Hydro's. They are ok, but nothing great. I would say it is about the same ride as stock, nothing to harsh but not like a Cadillac either.
