I am still pretty interested in it, but u guys r making me doubt I should buy it...I don't mean it in a bad way, I appreciate ur comments and I ask u keep them coming. It's better to learn now before I actually buy it.
unless you beat the heck out of it, the 4x4 will need no fixing. and in an XJ you'd need to beat it with a sledgehammer for anything to go wrong.
i think it's needless to say that we all prefer 4x4 over 2x4. if it fits your budget, get it. you won't be sorry.

As far as the difference between 4X4 and 2X4, the maintenance cost differences are minimal. The 4X4 you add servicing the front dif and the transfer case (not often) and being lifted with larger tires like that purple one your gas mileage will be a little worse. The only other cost associated with owning a 4X4 are if you go run it hard (rock crawling) on the trails, then it can get costly. I say if you like it, go for it!

Thanks for that advise, I'll give it a good check. It does look in pretty good conditions, the guy selling it got another red lifted one and it looks like he does treat his XJs pretty good, so I'll check but I'm pretty confident it is in good conditions.

Mine is the white one 4x2 and the dark purple 4x4 is the one I'm interested in buying, they are asking $3,200 for it (without the tires in this pic).

I don't want to replace mine, but I am interested in owning a 4x4 XJ and the fact that the one for sale is purple makes it even more attracting. Your comments are really helping me, please keep them coming. The main purpose of this thread is for me to learn more about owning a 4x4 versus a 4x2, but feel free to comment if I should buy it or not and why.

that trailer hitch must be set up for something pretty tall cause it looks a little upside down for most stuff.

Thank you all for your advice and comments. I didn't have the money and I decided not to do much about it. I chose to keep working on my XJ to get it to where I want it with time.

My dad was the one still interested, but we found out someone bought it already. The seller told us that the guy who bought it was some rich kid that needed a cheaper vehicle to drive around town (if any of you know about the violence going on in Mexico, that's why he needs a less expensive vehicle). I don't really like the reason why he bought it, but I hope he realizes how amazing the XJ is and falls in love with it just like we have.

Also, when we went back there to talk to the seller about it we found 4 Cherokees and 1 Wrangler parked in fron. The guy is a mechanic and I know I'm going back there to find out more about them.
